Dear Sara,

My name is Justin Rundle and I’m a personal trainer, home fitness expert, strength coach and nutritionist. Your query is one I have worked with over a thousand clients on. So, with that said, here are the six small changes one needs to make to start losing weight and body fat with ease.

Drink more water

Most people think they are hydrated, but they rarely are. Being thoroughly hydrated allows the liver to metabolize body fat efficiently and puts the entire body in a healthy, positive state. Start with this.

Cut out dairy

This may sound radical since dairy has been hyped has the miracle formula, but modern, unbiased research is finding that dairy intolerance’s are on the rise. Watch the documentary “Forks Over Knives” to see some independent studies from some of America’s most renowned dietitians. This point is so valid, that I instantly lost 15 pounds when I cut dairy. My digestive issues ceased and clients of mine had the same results.

Cut out wheat

When I say cut out wheat, I don’t mean carbohydrates. I’m referring to wheat, flour and everything associated with it. Much like dairy, our bodies are not designed to handle manufactured wheat or genetically modified foods. There is a term being used, “wheat belly,” and it’s a similar trait to beer bellies. Ironically beer and wheat are not that far off. Instead of wheat, add more veggies and moderate amounts of fruit.

Cut back or cut out alcohol

Much like step two and three, anything that can be toxic to one’s body puts metabolizing body fat on the back burner as the bodies primary function becomes processing toxins. Alcohol is toxic to the body and in large amounts can be very difficult for the body to process. So in this state, the empty calories can become fatty acids, which can in turn become stored along with other body fat stores.

Get moving

This seems like the most obvious one, but increasing activity will burn calories. Start with making gradual improvements and establishing a fitness goal. Before you know it, one will lose weight and develop a new healthy, daily habit we like to call the healthy lifestyle formula.  It’s all about trying to make constant, gradual improvements and there is no bad place to start.

Take the stress out of life

One of the most under targeted promoters of body fat storage is cortisol. Much like the state of the body with dairy, wheat and alcohol, general stress (cortisol) can make it extremely difficult to lose weight and body fat. To combat stress, get your zzz’s in; add more raw fruits and vegetables in daily and exercise.

It’s hard to say exactly how much weight one will lose after practicing these six steps, but on average, one could lose one to two pounds a week. Everyone starts at a different point and some have more to lose then others. Ultimately, the weight loss will stop and other changes should be added. Or, maybe someone finds their homeostasis (or the point where their body feels healthy and comfortable). Either way, these easy weight loss tips work and for some, much faster then others. I have had clients lose weight quickly due to these healthy lifestyle choices.

Thank you for the opportunity to answer your query.
