Smart fitness training is about creating healthier lifestyles over fitness highlights.  That said, everyone needs a rest day, whether active or non-active (active rest days can just be a light walk, jog, yoga and stretch session (only after the body is warm!))  Jessica Rundle of Workout Anywhere shows you a great active rest day (or mild anywhere workout) that can be literally done anywhere.

Does one need to hike in a remote location?

Not at all.  The filming of this hike is only five minutes out of Spokane, Washington.  Active rest is great anywhere (parks, neighborhood, woods, beach, mountains, etc.).  Just keep moving!

Not only is hiking limitless, it is the perfect activity that can be enjoyed with family and friends. This allows everyone to get fresh air, enjoy nature and socialize in a healthy way.
